A few months ago, Imprezzio Marketing came out with a new product we called the Google Local Enhancement.  This enhancement included 2 features:

1.  A Highlighted feature that appeared on Google Local

Highlighted Feature on Google Local

Although adding this feature does not change the position of the listing, it makes it stand out and increases the likeliness of it getting clicked on.  Over the last 2 and a half months, several small businesses we work with have added this feature and this is what we’ve found their results to be:

  1. On Average, their impressions (number of searches done on Google that pull them up)  increased by 50%
  2. On Average, their clicks increased by 98% (almost doubled).

We also analyzed the geographic areas and found that the top 3 States that had the highest increase in clicks were:

  1. Colorado
  2. Washington
  3. Texas

The top 3 States with the highest increase in impressions were:

  1. Colorado
  2. Nevada
  3. Georgia

We also compared the sizes of the cities that the small businesses were located in and found that the highest % of increased activity occured in the following population sizes:

  1. Cities with 500,000+ population
  2. Cities with 20,000-50,000 population
  3. Cities with 300-500,000 population

The second thing this enhancement gives you is,

2. Sponsored Ads on Google’s partner websites (including AOL, ASK.com, Google Maps and many more)

Sponsored Ads on Google's Partner Websites

By having sponsored ads show up on tons of websites other than Google, the number of people seeing the ads increased tremendously. We saw the impressions for the sponsored ads for these businesses become an average of 13 times greater (or a 1324% increase)

 The Top 3 States were:

  1. California (Impressions increased by 4902%)
  2. Pennsylvania (Impressions increased by 1726%)
  3. Oregon (Impressions increased by 1337%)

We also compared the sizes of the cities that the small businesses were located in and found that the highest % of increased activity occured in the following population sizes:

  1. 20,000-50,000 (Impressions increased by 3532%)
  2. 50,000-100,000 (Impressions increased by 1991%)
  3. 0-20,000 (Impressions increased by 755%)

This study used the results from 34 different small businesses located in 15 different States.  The conclusions showed us that this feature works well for a variety of geographic areas and population sizes.  The sponsored feature seemed to have more of an impact in the smaller towns and the map listing feature seemed to have a bigger impact in the larger cities.
